Studying in Romania 2026: universities, medicine programmes, costs and how to apply
A guide to studying in Romania: universities in an EU member state, English-taught medicine and other programmes, costs, admission and visa steps.

Short answer: Romania is a European Union member, living and tuition costs are lower than in Western Europe, and it offers English-taught medicine, dentistry, veterinary and engineering programmes. But the university's accreditation and the diploma recognition rules should be checked in advance.
Why Romania?
Relatively affordable costs, study within the European Union area and English-taught programmes make Romania attractive to students. The number of international students is high, especially in medicine.
Well-known universities
- Carol Davila University of Medicine and Pharmacy (Bucharest).
- Babeș-Bolyai University (Cluj-Napoca).
- University of Bucharest and the Polytechnic University.

Tuition depends on the programme: medicine and dentistry are usually more expensive than other fields. Living costs are lower than in Western Europe but vary by city. Check exact amounts on the university's official page.
Admission steps
- Choose the university and programme and check the deadlines.
