Scholarships for a bachelor's abroad: what school leavers can apply for
Bachelor's scholarships abroad for school leavers: government scholarships, university scholarships, the State Programme and when to start preparing.
Most scholarships are for master's level, so parents and school leavers often ask: are there scholarships for a bachelor's? Yes — the choice is just narrower and you need to start preparing early.
Government scholarships (fully funded)
- Türkiye Scholarships — bachelor's at Turkish universities, including a year of Turkish language preparation.
- Stipendium Hungaricum — bachelor's in Hungary, with a quota for Azerbaijan.
- GKS (Korea) — undergraduate programme with a Korean language year. More
- MEXT (Japan) — undergraduate selection via the embassy.
- CSC (China) — bachelor's at Chinese universities. More
- State programmes of countries such as Romania, Slovakia and Poland — some also cover bachelor's.
Azerbaijan's State Programme
The State Programme also funds bachelor's study abroad; conditions are tied to indicators such as national exam (DİM) results or the SAT.
University scholarships
- USA — some universities give substantial need-based aid to international students; many offer partial merit scholarships. More
- UK, Canada, Europe — usually partial scholarships (tuition discounts).
- Private universities in Türkiye and Central Europe — 25–100% discounts are common.
When to start preparing
- Year 10: choose country and field, prepare for language tests.
- Year 11 (autumn): IELTS/TOEFL, SAT (if needed), put scholarship deadlines in your calendar.
- Year 11 (winter–spring): apply — most government scholarship deadlines are in late winter and early spring.
