Erasmus+ exchange: a semester abroad for students at Azerbaijani universities
Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility: studying a semester in Europe while enrolled at an Azerbaijani university, what the grant covers, conditions and applying through your university's international office.

Short answer: The Erasmus+ exchange programme allows students at Azerbaijani universities to study one or two semesters at a European university. It differs from Erasmus Mundus: it is an exchange semester, not a full degree, and you apply through your own university's international relations office.
Erasmus+ vs Erasmus Mundus
- Erasmus+ exchange: you study at your university in Azerbaijan and spend 1–2 semesters in Europe; credits count back home.
- Erasmus Mundus: a full master's programme held at several European universities.
Who can apply?
- Students (bachelor's, master's, doctoral) at Azerbaijani universities with an Erasmus+ agreement with a European university.
- Those who meet the university's internal selection criteria: average grade, language level, motivation.
- Some programmes also offer mobility for academic and administrative staff.
What does the grant cover?
- A monthly living grant (varies by country).
- A travel grant.
- No tuition is charged at the host university.
Amounts are set by programme rules; confirm with your own university.
Application steps
- Follow announcements from your university's international relations office.
- Find out which European universities have agreements.
- Prepare documents: transcript, motivation letter, language certificate, CV.
- After selection, a learning agreement is signed.
- Apply for a visa. See: student insurance abroad.
Why it is valuable
A semester abroad strengthens your language skills, CV and future master's and scholarship applications.
Frequently asked questions
What if my university has no Erasmus+ agreement?
Exchange options may then be limited. Ask your university about future projects or look directly at degree programmes abroad.
Will my grades count in Azerbaijan?
Credits should be recognised based on the learning agreement. Agree the courses with your university in advance.
Note: Erasmus+ rules, grant amounts and university agreements may change. Get current information from your own university's international office.
