Belgium's Flanders region is home to strong European universities: KU Leuven, Ghent University (UGent), Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), the University of Antwerp and Hasselt University. The Flemish government's Master Mind Scholarships are for talented international students who want to do a master's at these institutions.
What does it cover?
- A stipend for the academic year (for living costs)
- A tuition fee waiver or a significant reduction
In recent years the stipend has been a little over €8,000, but amounts and conditions are updated every year — check the official information on the Study in Flanders website and the university's page.
Who can apply?
- International students applying to an eligible master's programme at a Flemish university or university college
- Candidates with excellent academic results
- Citizens of certain countries or those already studying in Belgium may be excluded — confirm eligibility in the official rules
How to apply
You apply through your chosen university, not directly to the government:
- First apply to the master's programme.
- Complete the scholarship application on the university's Master Mind page (motivation, CV, references, etc.).
- The university selects its strongest candidates and nominates them to the government.
Deadlines vary by university and are often by early spring.
