Choosing a major for the State Programme: which fields had the most admissions in 2022–2028?

Choosing a major for the State Programme: the most popular fields by 2022–2028 admissions, master's specialisations, directions missing from the 2026/27 list and how to choose.

Choosing a major for the State Programme: which fields had the most admissions in 2022–2028?

When applying for the State Programme (DP), one of the most important decisions is choosing a major. A major can only be applied for if it is in DP's 2026/27 list. In this article we look at which fields were chosen most, based on the publicly visible 2022–2028 admission statistics.

This article is independent information and is not affiliated with the Ministry. Official source: dp.edu.az.

Fields with the most admissions

By the approximate field grouping of programmes in the list, admissions are:

  • IT, data and artificial intelligence: 732
  • Business, economics and finance: 526
  • Engineering and energy: 367
  • Public administration and policy: 222
  • Natural sciences and health: 160
  • Education: 119
  • Law: 62
  • Architecture and arts: 32

These numbers can change depending on the grouping method, but the overall picture is clear: IT, business and engineering take the main place.

Most popular master's specialisations

Among the most chosen master's specialisations are Finance (126), Public Policy (99), Data Science (63), Economics (43), Computer Science (42), Public Administration (29), MBA (27) and Artificial Intelligence (24). At bachelor level, Computer Engineering, Economics and Computer Science are the most common directions.

Directions missing from the list

Some directions are not in the 2026/27 list. For example, LL.M programmes in Law had admissions in the past but do not appear in the current list. Education and Public Health are not in the list at bachelor level. So always check the list, which is updated every year, before choosing a major.

How to choose

  1. Check the list first. Is the programme you are interested in in the 2026/27 list?
  2. Look at admission statistics. A field with many admissions may also mean higher competition.
  3. Match it with your skills and interests. Choosing only by statistics can reduce long-term motivation.
  4. Consider the university and country. Language requirements, admission rules and costs differ.
  5. Prepare alternative programmes. Several suitable options increase your chances.

Conclusion

Choosing a major in DP should rely on both the list and personal goals. The list can change every year, so always confirm the latest information from the official source.
